First Church of Christ Scientist, Whanganui
Learn more about our church
Our Sunday service is based a weekly Bible Lesson, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly and studied by students of Christian Science all over the world. This sermon is composed of selections from the bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. These two books constitute our Pastor.
Our Sunday School provides the opportunity for young people up to the age of twenty to learn more about making Christian Science a practical part of their everyday lives. The teaching is based on the Bible, beginning with the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, and the Sermon on the Mount and Science and Health
At our Wednesday testimony meetings, passages from the Bible and Science and Health are read, focusing on a variety of subjects. A portion of the meeting is set aside for members of the congregation to share their testimonies of inspiration and healing, gained from their study of Christian Science.
Our Reading Room adjacent to our church is a book store and spiritual resource centre. Here you will find the Bible, Bible reference materials, the writings of Mary Baker Eddy and other Christian Science literature and CDs as well as items for young people. A quiet Room is available for study and prayer. A librarian is always on hand to answer questions and a computer is available to enable you to access a wide range of videos and talks on spirituality and healing.
You can obtain prayerful help and learn more about the teachings of Christian Science from those dedicated to its public healing practice. A directory of practitioners can be found at the Reading Room.

Christian Science: What it is and how it heals.
This lecture will explore a variety of questions, including: “Why is it that genuine healing involves more than purely physical factors based on a patient’s biology and genetic make-up?” “What does Christian Science offer beyond positive thinking or faith healing?” “How is Christian Science both spiritual and scientific?”
Michelle Nanouche’s responses are based on the works and teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Bible, and as discussed in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Christian Science movement. Nanouche will also offer compelling examples–including the healing of a severe leg injury–from her professional practice of healing to illustrate elements of Christian Science treatment.
Michelle Nanouche trained and practiced as a Christian Science Nurse for 10 years before changing her focus from nursing care to the practice of Christian Science healing through prayer.
Nanouche is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. She travels from her home in Paris, France.
Michelle Nanouche will present her lecture titled
‘Christian Science: What it is and how it heals,’
on Friday 24 May 2019, 7.30pm at the Christian Science Church,
